In Jesse's defense, Reis is actually very easily distracted by things that interest him. Which makes him easy to get away from.

Charles Sullivan is actually one of the most dangerous teachers in school, second only to the Trio (which, despite being three teachers, is referred to as one thing). Which will explain Reis' reaction in the next page.
